Bike Seat Dropping (Again) after Sleeve Replacement

13348 Views 15 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Peloton Guru
We have had our Bike for just a little more than a month and a half, and we are one week in with our new seat post/sleeve replacement. The seat had been dropping mid-rides and this was the solution. I know this is a pervasive issue with Peloton, and here we are a week later having slippage issues again. Customer service's solution was to ship me another sleeve today, and tell me to "be careful" adjusting the seat. I am not sure what that means, exactly.

  • Anyone else have a repeat issue with the seat dropping even after a new sleeve was installed?
  • What has been the resolution?
  • Does anyone else agree that these parts are rather flimsy and not suited for a $2,000 bike?
I would go through the inconvenience (and cost) of upgrading to the Bike+ if it were different, but I was told by Peloton that it is the same (plastic sleeve) and the only thing different is the knob mechanism.

Looking for any feedback or advice. Thank you!

HI Rhonda,

I have the Bike + and i'm on my second call to them as my seat keeps dropping. The first call they said it an issue with the sleeve so my second call today I was told they will be sending out another sleeve and seat post so they are just replacing parts. My bike is still new less that 20 rides. I will try this again and see what happens but if you call them again i'm sure thats what they will suggest.

thanks,
andrea

Has there been any resolution? I'm having the same problem even with a new sleeve. I should be getting the seat post and L handle today. Did a new seat post fix this issue?

I have the same issue. New sleeve and new seat post didn’t help. I am requesting a new frame entirely but the problem is poor design: there is not enough friction to hold the seat post. I found a way to deal with that you slipping a rubber jar opener between the sleeve and the seat post but I should not have to jury rig this. A 2000 dollar bike should not have to be jury rigged.
We've had the same issue. We've had the knob, seat arm, and sleeve replaced multiple times and had two technicians come out to service the bike. Unfortunately, the recent technician told me that this is a common issue for them - he services this issue about once per week for Bike+ but not as often with the first edition Bike. It honestly seems like the bike was poorly engineered or, as others have said, has flimsy parts. Peloton needs to address the issue by just going back to a pin system so that the plastic sleeve doesn't wear out. I think I'll try to push harder to get them to provide a new frame as MJS1955 has said above. We previously had the Bike (First edition) and had no issues. It was only until we had the Bike+ was when we started experiencing the issue.
We have had the bike for a few months and have never risen it because of the seat. We keep getting the parts and replacing them and it still doesn't work. We just want out of this bike.
Bike+ seat (Aug 2021) will not stay put - slips down. I thought it was just trying to tell me I was overweight. Looking inside the sleeve - it is a friction (or lack there of) problem
Any update here? I've tried friction paste (used in carbon fiber bikes to increase post to frame friction so you don't clamp down frame too hard and crack it). It's worked some - but has started slipping again. It's basically a grease with grit in it.

Thoughts from a former bike mechanic / engineer is that the friction points are too small - it's a small piece in the front trying to squeeze together the skinny back of the post with the front. So large clamping force is needed over a small area - which is hard to get by hand. It's often better to have a larger area, so less friction is needed in any given spot, but you have lots more area to clamp.

The seat clamp looks like it's the same shape - but I've no clue where to find another seat clamp. thoughts?

Any other thoughts? I'm not far from drilling holes in the post. Not particularly heavy - around 200 lbs, and dropped from ~29 to ~25 on a 45 minutes ride today.
I've got the bike+, just pulled the handle out, looks like a metric 10mm bolt, and probably coarse thread. I may buy a normal bolt the same size and just use a wrench to tighten it down.

I have the same problem with seat slipping through sleeve. Peloton sent me a sleeve replacement and slippage continued. Now they are sending me a new sleeve and screw clamp. The journey continues on trying to find a solution.
This is a huge issue at the fitness center I belong to. About every two months the seat post tightening screw strips. Sometimes its the handle, sometimes it's the screw. Either way it's a terrible design! It needs to be a spring loaded pin or some ribs so you don't have to crank it down so hard to keep it from sliding down.

What really sucks it that it takes the fitness center weeks to fix it every time it happens.

Get the extended warranty. JFDI
We've had the Peloton + Bike for almost a year and the seat keeps slippling. They sent a replacement with the same result. We are becoming very annoyed with this issue and my wife is at the point where she doesn't want to ride the bike anymore. I'm afraid just sending out a replacement is not going to resolvel the issue. It has to be a defect in the design. I don't know why they changed it. We never had this issue with the original bike.
Demand a new bike while in warranty. If no love email Barry the CEO. He’ll make happen
