Hi, you need to shop for instructors who have a style that you like. For example Leanne Hainsby is a lot of fun to ride with but she talks a lot and if you really want to concentrate on training it could be distracting. On the other hand, if you ride with Matt Wilpers he tends to provide only what is needed to meet the session training goals and some motivational comments. Note also that some instructors provide very specific instructions such as 10 seconds to be at this cadence and this resistance. Others leave you hanging and unless you are really listing you miss the direction to change cadence/resistance. I keep a whiteboard next to my bike where I write comments about which instructors I like and which to avoid. Just like anything else, some people you like and some you don't :)
That's a good idea about the whiteboard. I don't mind talking, as you say, in a workout motivational way. Helps pass the time. And I love Cody because he's goofy and dances. I just don't need someone to tell me they love me, that they believe in me, that I'm beautiful, that I can get everything I want in life, that I just need to believe. It's a lot of psychobabble. Someone just suggested Ben, and I am writing down Matt.

Just did a tunde ride. She’s a badass to say the least but incessant chatter. “Everything that you do not know has led you to everything that you know.” Really? I think she said that a a dozen times mixed in with a litany of other motivational nonsense. I realize I’m in the minority but it would be so nice if there were classes where taking just focused on elements of the workout. There’s plenty to say there.

So funny, the psychobabble is a deal killer for me. I think Ben (Aldis?) and Matt Wilpers focus mostly on the workout and training. Someone just mentioned below that she did a class with Matt and he talked about the songs he played and the artists, but I'll take that narrative any day. It's the self-helpery that makes me crazy. I was pretty turned off when one very popular instructor said more than once, how she loved me. Seriously? My one guilty pleasure is Cody. He never stops talking, but it makes the time pass, and it's not psychobabble or self helpery. It's just like having lunch with your friend on a bike who makes you laugh. But I totally get not wanting to hear talking.
