Instructors talking too much

31364 Views 75 Replies 52 Participants Last post by  nigelndee
I think the instructors are great, but I really wish they would have classes that have minutes-long periods where you just ride and listen to the music. Some of them feel the need to talk literally the whole time and it makes it hard to get into the ride. Everyone I talk to feels the same way so wondering why there is not a whole section of classes that feature this?

YES!!!! It can be really annoying, especially if they feel the need to share some "emotional" story. It feels contrived and even if it isn't, who wants to think about deep, heavy stuff when you're trying to sweat it out?

Peloton, Please adjust the more music setting to actually do what it’s supposed to do!

I am about to do the same thing! The talking is non stop. It’s grueling to try to workout and someone just talking the whole time. I even tried a yoga class today and again... the whole class! Not one break of talking and loud too. I can’t believe they don’t offer a quiet option. Even the more music less instructor is still awful. I want to hear the music and can’t. Super disappointed
I just had my first truly awful experiance with nonstop talking . I actually turned off the volume and finished the last 10 minutes in peace. Hannah Corbin did not shut up for 30 seconds on the vinyl ride . Great music ruined by her non stop blather.

... would also recommend Sam Yo's rides. He's not very chatty other than relevant information.

Yes I agree, though I don't love his music. Heavy rock, right?

I get it that a lot of shout outs and encouragement is satisfying for many. But I would really appreciate instructors who talk less! It would be great if the shout outs could be muted.

I was excited to use my Peloton, I had to shut Cody off after 10 minutes. I work my a** off and deal with having to listen to people all day. I was looking forward to this being my escape. Super disappointed. I tried a female instructor same thing. Peloton 👎👎

If you're OK with less talking I find that Emma and Ben Alldis are less chatty so you may want to give them a try.
New to the bike and the forum. After reading through the comments I get that there are a wide range of people that use the Peloton and that Peloton is not servicing the those of you that are training or moderate to high end athletes.

For those of us that bought the Peloton to get into shape, the motivational part of the rides, I find to be helpful. I think Peloton has focused too heavily on this market. Most likely their data shows that we are the largest consumers purchasing Peloton's and they are trying to keep us as members.

That said, I do see a point in the distant future for myself when I do get fit that I would like less talking. I also agree that the extra banter is not needed. I use the option for more music than instructor on every ride. Though I do want to hear them for the queues.

Has anyone sent a request to Peloton requesting less talk for high end rides?

Peddle on my brothers.

I totally agree with you I bought this bike to work out and train I don’t need therapy sessions I don’t need dance lessons I don’t need to hear about their past family things. They talk too much . The female instructors tend to be the worst. Peloton has received many complaints on this but I don’t think they really care. I don’t think there’s one class that you can actually do without getting some kind of storytelling. What they need to add to the bike is where you can push a button and tone out the instructors altogether but hear the music. And it would be great to see what the instructors are actually peddling. With so much chitchat and they have some classes going extreme speed and cadence I really can’t believe that half of them are doing the same.

I think Emma is getting as bad as the rest of them!

Agree. I just got off the bike after 5 minutes because the instructor would not shut up. Just got me out of it and I have to get to work now. This is the peloton equivalent having to scroll 10 pages about someone’s childhood before getting a recipe for a frittata.

What they need to do since they feel the need to talk about stuff I really don’t care about since I’m on the bike to workout, not get a lesson on life experiences or how to clear my mind ( working out does that when you don’t have to hear really stupid stuff) but have an option to push a button to completely mute the instructor but hear the music. They have the button now to lower the instructor’s voice, but damn you still hear them. And shout outs??? Are you working out to hear “good for you 500 rides”? C’mon folks do you really need that inspiration to work out harder?

Welcome to the forum @Gypsy1914
How many instructors have you tried so far?
When did you get your bike?
Seems there's an overwhelming desire for a mute button, in order to shut out instructors more so the ones that can't stop with their irrelevant babble. I think it's time for Peloton to actually do something about it. Some people enjoy it so be it , they don't have to use THE BUTTON and they can continue enjoying it as they please . But please give the rest of us who actually don't enjoy it so much or not at all, the choice to mute the instructors when we want to.
Like most members there are definitely some instructors I enjoy more than others and that don't talk too much or when they actually talk its bearable and relevant to the class. So I stick with them , but there are time when I wouldn't mind having the option to mute them as well and just listent to the music.

What's also unfortunate is as a paying member ,there are classes that I don't do because I don't want to have to listen to the instructors. So in some way I can't access all the classes. So why limit my availability to certain classes?

That's where a mute function would change all that. I've had my bike since December of last year and by far my single biggest pet peeve is instructors that talk to much and prevent me from listening to the music.

I don't mind being given instructions that are relevant to the class, please cue me when necessary. But I don't need to hear that "I'm beautiful inside" , that "I can " or that" I'm star just for showing up". The worse is the history we're sometimes given regarding a song , If I really want to know I'll Google it after the class. I don't really mind the shout outs, the instructors I follow aren't too bad , sometimes they'll shout a little before the class begins or when it ends.

Music, for me and I'm sure for other members is the most important aspect during a spin class, so why ruin it with all the babbling?

My hope is that someone from Peloton actually reads these comments rand specifically regarding this topic and they realize how much wer'e really annoyed by all the talking. SO PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT PELOTON!!!

Indeed!
I believe in the power zone rides they don't do shout outs which is kind of nice. Also certain rides like the Ally/Emma Prince ride there were no shout outs. This is a controversial topic but I wouldn't mind a new category of rides to filter on with no shout outs.
How nice it would be to filter out the shout outs!

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve been doing this for about a month, and I’ve done all kinds of different exercise classes. All the talking takes you out of your zone and makes each class feel like a miserable eternity. And then the faux encouragement really starts to get on my nerves. I’d love some recommendations about instructors who talk less.
CDE likes to (as she says) 'get out of the way'. She has reflection rides where she lets minutes go by without talking. She also has a classical music ride where she says relatively little. I agree, I would love it if you could go five minutes without the instructor talking, especially on the long rides. Sometimes I just turn the sound off altogether.

What low self awareness these fitness instructors have. Reduce your word count by 80% and your value per word will skyrocket. And take an internal communication class. Embrace feedback.

I am basically down to just Sam. He’s great. Zero bs. Very mellow but guides perfectly. . I really enjoy Kendall’s interval and arms but oh my dear lord she never stops spewing total nonsense. There really need to instructor mute. Please peloton.
