I usually do cool down at the cool down portion of the ride. The exceptions would be if I'm going for a PR - in that case, I'll go hard until the end. The other might be if I were close to hitting some target number like 500KJ or something. If I'm just competing with folks on the leaderboard I do cool down at the end as I figure if I'm ahead when the cool down begins I've won. If someone else wants to go hard and pass me during the cool down whatever.
