There have been quite a few new high tech exercise bikes that have come to market over the past year or so. Found an article that covers some of the main alternatives if budget is a concern. https://flexmastergeneral.com/peloton-alternatives/
How would you go about sourcing a used bike? An online marketplace for private sales? I've been looking at the Schwinn IC2 solely for the fact that its a tenth of the price.
I haven't come across anyone selling it for much less than $2k in my area. And you get what you pay for when it comes to indoor cycling bikes. Seen a lot of complaints of cheap materials with the Schwinn.
I haven't been able to find any used bikes up on various marketplaces. Not sure if that's an indication that people are happy with it, or they are just being sold privately through other means. Might see about visiting a local store in my area to have a look in person.
Lowest I've seen for a used model is $1,850. There are a bunch of new owners sharing up their discount codes for friends and family. Will save you $125 off the starting price.
I seen some people weighing the cost benefit of owning a Peloton vs using one at the gym. At around $80/month those memberships can add up if you're not using other machines to make it worth while
The savings here will really only be seen in the long term. A lot of people who are initially turned off by the high buy in price of the Peloton, arent looking at the platform as a whole. You're getting a bike, dozens of personal trainers and a tracking system to monitor all of your progress.
Price for the Peloton Studio is at $50/month and is unlimited. So that's also something to consider compared to having your own Peloton at home. Studio's can be more motivating.
The studio is a great option for those in smaller apartments, or simply people looking for an alternative to a gym membership. The bikes in those classes are also constantly being adjusted and calibrated.
