Does anyone understand the cadence cables and the issue with it not reporting? I have the problem now and have read the plethora of suggested responses where it seems 'switch it off and on again' is the most likely action. But it doesn't work. I've taken the front of the bike apart and can see the red light on the flywheel working, so the issue is either it is reading the cadence, a break in the cable, or the connection plugs on the bottom of the monitor. Mechanically wiggling it all has worked before by chance, but not now. Replacing the screen for a possible failing 3.5mm jack connection is crazy, and £600 for an entire monitor for what is a cheap part to supply and fit, I'd have thought.

So my question is, does anyone here have more profound insights into this problem and how to resolve it? Any Peleton service engineers, maybe? Any thoughts are appreciated. How do I get this fixed out of warranty?
Thanks

Hi. I have seen this quite a bit. It seems to be often resolved by checking the connection and/or resetting the tablet but not always. There's a guy named Howard Rubin who wrote an unofficial Peloton user guide which can be found here. On page 8 he has a couple more specific things to try out including a picture.

If that doesn't help, I would start a chat with Peloton support here. They may be able to send you parts like a replacement cable before resorting to sending out a technician or telling you that you need a new tablet.

This site has no official affiliation with Peloton.

Sorry to hear about your issue. What a pain. Good luck.

I had this issue on and off for over a year. Would have to take the plug out and put it back in to get it to work. It finally gave out last week and the entire jack into which the plug sits just dislodged when I was plugging it back in. Now that my bike is over a year old they won't fix it. Since I have to buy a new screen at $400 I decided to take the back off and see if I could put the jack back in place. Turns out the jack into which the cadence/resistance cord plugs is soldered onto the video board and must have been loose and finally gave way. The jack was soldered in 4 points with two tiny plastic pins. When I took of the back the jack was dislodged from it's solders and the pins had broken. The solders and pins are tiny, especially when compared to the cable which appears too stiff and I can see why the whole thing got loose and snapped off. I would have Peloton check that out or replace the video screen or board before the jack dislodges. Your experience sounds exactly like mine. Now trying to see if they can sell me just the video board. Seems crazy to have to replace the whole screen and spend $400.

Hello!

Was this resolved? I just accidentally ripped the cable that goes from the cadence sensor into the board and I don't know the order in which each cable goes inside the jack.

Do you happen to remember? I might also need the clip that goes in it as I'm afraid it might has broken and I can't find one nor I know what to look for....

Hi. Were you able to have the issue resolved? I am having a similar issue. The 3.5mm jack that transmits the cadence/resistance snapped off inside the port on the back of the monitor. I've tried everything I can think of to get the broken jack out and I've not been successful. I would hate to get a whole new monitor just because of a broken jack. How did you take the monitor apart? I might have to do it to get to the jack. Thank you for your help

Hello
I came across your message about a faulty jack leading to the plug for the cadence and controls not working. Unfortunately I have the exact same problem with the plug not working and something rattling around in there. I was looking if you had any suggestions as there are no screws and I want to get back off and hopefully solder it all back together. Any ideas would be great, I dont want to break the backing but have no idea how to pop it off. Thanks!

The back of the monitor is held on with 4 screws on the mounting plate and then plastic clips all around the perimeter. You need a spudger or other tool that will not mar the plastic and start at a corner or short side. You gently work your spudger into the crack and then slowly push it towards the back of the monitor. The clips will pop out. One you get one put a piece of plastic in that location so it does not close up and work your way around the perimeter.

Would be interested if anyone has successfully replaced this jack. Like the picture above, the traces on ours tore away and the jack is now lost. One of the resistors also tore away. The remaining one ohms out at 5.75K. I am going to search for board mount 3.5mm 3 conductor jack and see if I can scavange a resistor from a dead piece of electronics that is close.

See above about removing the back.

This is the part if you are missing the jack.
I will try to post pics after I've replaced mine. Bad design to use the solder pads to hold the jack down. I will be using epoxy to hold it down. The required pads are the ones closet to the surface mount resistors and one or both grounds which are the pads closet to the edge of the board. If you tore the PCB traces away like the picture, you can probably solder bridge to the resistor.

Wish me luck.

Hi! I'm having the same issue and am going to attempt to solder it this week. Did you have any luck?

Hi @flynmoose I’m experiencing the same problem with the newer gen bike. How did you manage to identify the part?

I’m having trouble finding a replacement for my data jack. Here’s a picture of where it was

It arrives tomorrow. Will let you know how it looks.
Cool thanks. I had a revelation today and realised that the headphone jack that connects external headphones is the same component so swapped the broken jack with this one - I use Bluetooth anyway so not an issue. My cadence and resistance both finally working again after more than a year!

That's good to know since this is the wrong part and will not work.

Did you ever get an answer? Mine just got ripped out & I need to know order of cables.

I repaired mine doing the same trick with the headphone jack. Great idea. It worked. I hot glued the plugs to the tv screen to help prevent the cable from moving.
