Touch Screen Port Damage

I've been having issues with my metrics not working on my touch screen and today the port for the cable for metrics completely failed. I can't plug in the cable any longer, it just falls out. On Ebay you can buy just the back cover. It doesn't seem to make sense to me that this would work with my existing screen and I'd really just need a whole new screen. Thoughts?
